Drawing aids

The artists of the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance not only painted freehand but also made use of various mechanical and optical devices and aids to facilitate their work, which Albrecht Dürer also described in 1525 in his book: "Unterweysung der Messung mit Zirckel und Richtscheyd".

Some of these drawing aids were already known in antiquity (net frame, camera obscura).
